The BES.T.EDS
I've been referencing several TED Talks recently, and it has inspired my finally making a list of some of those I consider the best. With small commentaries. Enjoy and please feel free to share those you appreciate!
- Alberto Cairo - There are no Scraps of Men - An Italian aid worker in Afghanistan tells his perspective on the need for dignity amongst the most downtrodden and hurting of folks - and the joy he's had in giving his life to this mission.
- Gayle Tzemach Lemmon - Women entrepreneurs, example not exception - A successful businesswoman, Gayle points out the contradiction in our society of encouraging girls to be successful, while socially looking down upon such girls/women. Also, the importance of thinking large in terms of women's economic development.
- Tan Le - My Immigration Story - A beautifully told story of Tan's life with her sister, mother, and grandmother in their transition to a new life.
- Colin Robertson - A TED Speaker's Worst Nightmare - What happens when technical difficulties invade reality.
- Bryan Stevenson - We Need to Talk About an Injustice - a non-profit lawyer from the South, an inspiring message with a perspective we rarely see from - why it is important to bring justice to juveniles in the law system in the south.
- Homaru Cantu + Ben Roche - Cooking as Alchemy - A very interesting take on a 'sustainable' food system - using local foods and their chemical properties to essentially transform them into another food, such as hay and crab apples becoming barbecue.
- Elizabeth Gilbert - Nurturing Creativity - The author of Eat, Pray, Love discusses the historical view of creativity and genius, encouraging the artists of our time to rethink success and the pressure of the creative process.
- Derek Sivers - How to Start a Movement - An entertaining way of explaining how leaders succeed
“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
Psalm 18.30
